Data

Data can sometimes be overwhelming to look at, understand, and most importantly find useful in our day to day lives! At Upstream Parent we want to make sure that parents are in the know and have all the facts they need to support their child through some of the toughest years of their life.

Local school districts and public health agencies (such as the Health Department, Cortland Prevention Resources, and Speak Up Cortland Suicide Prevention Coalition) are already using this data in their strategic plans to address local substance use trends seen in 7th-12th graders. We’ve created a series of interactive dashboards that can be used in your own “parenting strategic plan.”

At Upstream Parent we want to make sure that parents are in the know and have all the facts they need to support their child through some of the toughest years of their life.

Wondering if 7th grade is too young to talk about drugs and alcohol? Check our Past 30 Day Use Dashboards to see if kids in Cortland County are already using them at that age (hint: they are!)

Our goal is to make this local data useful and interesting for you–parents!

Data Source

The data source for the dashboards on this page is the Cortland County Youth Development Survey administered by Cortland Area Communities That Care (CACTC). Since 2002, CACTC has surveyed 7th-12th grade students in Cortland County about substance use behaviors and risk and protective factors that predict adolescent problem behaviors. In 2019, each school district in Cortland County participated in the survey with over 2,000 valid surveys included in the data. Collected surveys are checked for validity and reliability prior to being included in the yearly sample.
